So I was in the garage turning. i was almost down, man it was looking good. Then i noticed a chip in the blank. i got the the bright idea that i can fill the chip with CA glue, so i go to do that. Well i thought the Glue was dry and put the blank back on the lathe to finish the sanding. Well i got the sanding finished and pulled it off the lathe. Well i found out that i glued the bushing in to the blank. Tomorrow i am going out to get new bushing and a new blank.

10.12.2011 Deep Thoughts....
Present Day
So the weekend of 10.7 - 10.9 Kelly and I got to have a weekend away from the out wonderful 2 kids. It was the first weekend away from them in a long, long, lloonnng time. We got to spend the weekend in Austin Texas. on 20.7 we went and saw Tyler Ward in concert. He has made a name for himself on you tube you can check him out at www.tylerwardmusic.com. It was a good time, he puts on a good show. It was a Stubbs BBQ in Austin, which is standing room only. The doors opened at 8 pm and we got back to our car just after 12:30 am on 10.8 so it was a lot of standing. I am old it was like 8:30 pm and i turned to Kelly tell her that i was ready for bed. I remember a time when my night started @midnight. man i am getting old.
After seeing Tyler it got me thinking. I am guessing he is about our age doing what he want to do and having fun doing it. this is what i am thinking on 10.8 when Kelly and i go to dinner with Clint and Andrea.
Some History
Clint and i went to ACU at the same time but did not start getting to know each other until we both got jobs at Apple. That is when i found out Clint was in to tv and movies. So during my time Living in Austin Clint and i wrote a screen play called the Butterfly Bout.
The Butterfly Bout is a work of art. when i got married and moved out of Austin in 2006, Clint kept the Butterfly Bout screen play to hopefully get it made. He had some takers, he had some reedits done, but now one saw our vision of the Butterfly Bout.
Present Day
Clint, Andrea, Kelly and i are sitting at diner. Clint tells me that he still has the Butterfly Bout and is thinking about doing it himself. Well that is when i let the the whole table know what i have been thinking.
some more history
Years ago i heard a sermon given. i do not remember who it was or what their point was, but what i do remember is this " jump in with both feet."
Present Day
That has always been in my mind, i have never jumped in to anything with both feet cause i am afraid that i might miss something. Well I told the table that i am jumping in with both feet. I am willing to put it all out there to make the Butterfly Bout cause i think it is that good and i want to share it. but jumping in is not just for the Butterfly Bout it is for everything i want to do Wood Turning and House Flipping. God will take care of it. I just need to fully trust him and he will make great things happen.

7/7/2011 I was doing It Wrong
So i have only been pen turning for about a year now. well a couple of months ago i got a pen kit that my brother and Dad wanted me to make for them. Well i made the first one form my brother, it cam out wobbly. Well that was the day i found out there there are 2 different sizes on mandrel an type A and a Type B. I need the Type B stile for the pen kit.
So the next time i went down to thew Rockler store and pick me up a Type B mandrel with a morse taper end to go in to my head stock of the lathe. I got back to SA and went to work on My Dads pen Man did it bounce around. But i got i made and realized that i did not like the morse tape mandrel because it moved a lot and kept coming out of the head stock.
about a week or so ago i bent my current mandrel and got out the morse taper mandrel again. thinking i was just not getting it in the headstock all the way. still had the same issue with it bouncing out.
This time i went for some help and headed down to the local WoodCraft and asked what was i doing wrong. i was told that the tails stock needs to be used to hold the mandrel in place. I told Luis that my mandrel had no place for the head stock to be put in. he thought that was strange and sold me a replacement piece. to fist that issue.
I get home last night and and tired the piece he sold me, it not not fit in to my mandrel, but i turn the same piece i was replacing over and low and behold there was a place for my tail stock to go.
So this weekend i have to get out to the garage and turn on my properly put together mandrel.
Thanks
Sam

6/3/2011 Two Pens
So on Friday, I got home from work had a pen already started on the lathe.
So there is the completed acrylic pen. Now that the old one is finished i get to start the new one.
This is my first circuit board pen. The Nice thing about this pen kit there was no drilling on gluing of the tube, you just put the bushings on the mandrel and then then pen blank and your ready to go.
So I started turning the pen. first I notice that this does not turn like an acrylic blank. I was getting pot marks in the blank. It seems that this blank is a lot softer than acrylic. I backed off on how much I was taking off. At one point I did get a nice long ribbon to come off the tool. that was awesome.
Well when I got it all truned down and sanded there was only one pot mark left, which was very very tiny.
Well here is the completed pen.
Thanks
Sam

Adventures in Booga Booga Land - Volume 1 (DVD)
Adventures in Booga Booga Land - Volume 1 (DVD)
By Richard Milner
This children’s animated show has three episodes in which we watch Marty the monkey and Gerard the giraffe play out three parables. The parables covered are: Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard from Matthew 20:1-16; Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Builders from Luke 06:47-49; and Parable of the Lamp Under the Bowl from Matthew 5:14-16.
We were not impressed with this video as far as Biblical content. It seemed very watered down and although I understand that the intended audience is quite young I wish there was more than 2 minutes of Bible explanation. The animation is ok but not great. The colors are bright. My 18 month old was somewhat interested, but this was not a big winner in our household. We would not recommend this DVD to another family.
